Ladies' Book Club

Ladies, you are invited to join us for our book club which meets once a month on Monday evenings from 7:00-8:30 p.m. in Room 26 upstairs.  Below are the books we are planning to read through the end of the year.  For more information and to RSVP, please contact Melinda at 303-379-8150.

June 28

We will be discussing, “The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency,” by Alexander McCall Smith. A series of vignettes linked to the establishment and growth of Mma Ramotswe’s “No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency” serve not only to entertain but to explore conditions in Botswana.  She is drawn to her profession to “help people with the problems in their lives.” 

July 26

We will be discussing “Quaker Summer,” by Lisa Samson.  When Heather spends the summer with two ancient Quaker sisters and a crusty nun running a downtown homeless shelter, she finds herself at a crossroads. 

August 30

We will be discussing “Made For His Pleasure: Ten Benchmarks of a Vital Faith,” by Alistair Begg. The book is an exceptionally articulate testament to the joy and necessity of acknowledge God in our lives through the gifts, blessings and talents that combine within us to achieve success in life, whatever our endeavors. 

September 27

We will be discussing, “Through the Shadowlands:  The Love Story of C.S. Lewis and Joy Davidman,” by Brian Sibley.  In this beautiful tribute, Sibley sensitively explores the private life of C.S. Lewis and Joy Davidman, revealing their tender moments, times of laughter, and the shining faith they shared during their darkest hours. 

October 25

We will be discussing, “Private Justice (Newpointe 911 Series #1),” by Terri Blackstock.  Firefighter Mark Branning is terrified, especially since he and his wife are estranged.  Realizing that Allie may be the next victim of a serial killer, Mark convinces his reluctant wife to leave town with him.  This tense and exciting thriller has an underlying message about the place of religion within a marriage.   

November 29

We will be discussing, “Deirdre (#3 Fires of Gleannmara Series),” by Linda Windsor.  Deirdre, the third heroine in the Fires of Gleannmara series, is an Irish princess wed to a heathen thief.  Although she is a reluctant heroine, compassion becomes her shield, prayer her sword, and God’s Word her direction. 

The Ladies' Book Club will not be meeting in December.
