Lakota Outreach

Our Mission

Colorado Community Church has been sending short-term mission teams to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota since 1996. The teams partner with the team of missionaries who live and work on the Reservation year-round with the hope of building friendships with Lakota people while serving in the community.

Team projects have included building and renovating the Re*Creation and Worship Center, hosting bicycle repair, basketball camps, VBS, a first-aid class, crochet & knitting, pickleball, horseshoe tournaments, a science & technology class, community dinners, and doing home makeovers. The gym at the Re*Creation Center has been acknowledged by the Lakota Tribe as a place of safe-keeping, which has kept gang activity, teen drinking and drugs to a minimum. Not long ago, the Tribe voted to help financially with the utility expenses of the gym. Check out what God is doing through this mission and see if it ignites your calling!

Upcoming Events

Shop for A Cause
November 30 and December 1, 2012

Shop for A Cause is an open market supporting a mix of for-profit businesses and not-for-profit organizations all promoting their special goods and crafts. There will be items for sale like kitchen utensils and cookware, hammocks, chocolates, hand bags, and jewelry, including earrings, necklaces, etc. Some of the items are manufactured in the US, but many of the goods are handmade, coming from far-away places like Uganda and Kenya. The intent of the Shop for a Cause organizers is to promote sales of one-of-a-kind, beautiful, and made-with-care crafts.

At the same time, the money from sales will empower someone in their fight against poverty and provide leverage toward social justice in areas across the world. Our shopping really can make a difference! Come and meet Nadine Morrison who was raised on the Pine Ridge Reservation. Over time she has learned to make tipis, native bead work, and the signature Lakota Star Quilts. Nadine will be selling these and other crafts. For specifics, go to: Shop for A Cause.

Christmas Celebration in Oglala
December 9, 2011

This annual event is hosted by the Re*C Center missionaries for the Oglala community. As an expression of God’s love for us by sending His only son, the missionaries deliver music and a message, serve Christmas dinner, and give gifts to 350+ members of the community. Lakota Outreach team members are welcome to participate in this great celebration.

How to Get Involved

Learn about Lakota Outreach and find ways to get involved

Lakota Outreach team meetings for 2013 will start in January. When and where will be posted on this page periodically, but if you'd like to be notified via email, please and let him know.

The monthly team meetings look to accomplish 4 things:

  • provide useful information to team members
  • provide opportunities for fellowship and team building
  • encourage and practice spiritual disciplines
  • address operational concerns that affect the whole team
